Itinerary
Day 1: Añashuayco Quarries – Culebrillas Quarry
We will depart for the Cerro Colorado District to immerse ourselves in the Añashuayco Quarries, a space where the harmony between natural landscape and living culture will provide you with an unparalleled experience.
We will explore the area of cutters, where hand-carved marvels, such as impressive rock faces up to 30 meters high, facades, and colonial reliefs, will capture your attention. You will have the opportunity to visit artisan workshops, where stonemasons will guide you in the interpretation of the laborious art of carving sillar stone.
During the Sillar Route tour, you will hear stories and experiences from the master stonemason, known today as “cutters.” You will witness how larger blocks are cut and see the impressive work of sculpting smaller blocks of sillar stone using ancestral tools that have been passed down through generations. In this area, you will have the chance to acquire crafts and souvenirs created with quarry sillar.
Our next destination will be the Culebrillas Quarry, a natural formation sculpted by water and wind erosion. Its name comes from the narrow rows of stones that provide us with the sight of a “virgin quarry,” an experience that evokes feelings of grandeur and mystery. In an area where paths converge, you will find rock faces with petroglyphs of various shapes, possibly influenced by the Wari culture.
Finally, we will return to the city and transfer you back to your hotel.
